Nikah certificates and local-body registration
A mahallu nikah certificate supports the couple when they register their marriage with the local body. It does not replace that registration.

In Kerala, every marriage must be registered with the local body, whatever the religion of the couple (Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules, 2008). Registration is done through the local body, today largely online through K-SMART.
What the mahallu certificate does
When the couple file their memorandum, the rules allow them to attach a certificate of marriage issued by the religious authority concerned. A nikah certificate from the mahallu is that supporting proof that the marriage was solemnised.
What it does not do
The mahallu certificate is not the marriage registration and does not replace it. The legal certificate is issued by the Local Registrar. Rabita One certificates never claim otherwise.
Register within 45 days
The rules ask couples to file within 45 days of the marriage; later filing is possible with a fine. Committees can remind families of this when they hand over the nikah certificate.
Checked by anyone, anywhere
Every Rabita One certificate is signed in the app by two office-bearers and carries a QR code. Scanning it opens a public page that shows only what is needed to confirm the certificate is genuine.
